Shield Knowledge
Freeze-thaw pipes, finished rec rooms, stacked towers, and Ontario claims. Direct answers from Shield — not a generic restoration FAQ.
Shield targets an hour for water emergencies across Toronto, Vaughan, and North York. The Bay Street desk assigns the nearest office — Brisbane, 234 Bay, Terra, or Carnforth — 24/7, with extraction and drying gear already on the truck.
Yes. The Bay Street desk is staffed around the clock. A person picks up — not a voicemail tree — and routes night, weekend, and holiday losses throughout the GTA.
If it is safe, shut off the main water supply for a burst pipe. Move valuables and electronics to higher ground, avoid standing water because of electrical hazards, do not use fans on sewage-contaminated water, and take photos of the damage for your insurance claim. Your safety comes first.
Shut off the water at the suite or building valve if you can, then call Shield. In a stacked condo, tell the super so they can isolate the riser. Move belongings off the wet floor, keep electrical outlets clear, and wait for extraction. We dry the assembly and coordinate with the board.
Call immediately, even at night. Water spreads fast and mold can start within 24 to 48 hours, so every hour matters. Shield is staffed 24/7 and dispatches crews for night and weekend emergencies — waiting usually increases damage and cost.
Four phases on one GTA file: (1) extraction and safety, (2) removal of unsalvageable wet materials, (3) structural drying with daily moisture logs, (4) rebuild — floors, drywall, paint, kitchens, baths, and waterproofing — by the same company after meters pass. Antimicrobial is used when the Category rating requires it.
Most GTA structures need several days of active drying to hit industry moisture targets. Hardwood, plaster, and below-grade rec rooms can take longer. Equipment leaves when meters match a dry room in the same building — not when the surface looks dry — so secondary mould does not start.
Extraction is usually hours. Drying is typically several days. Rebuild — floors, drywall, kitchens — is scheduled after readings pass and is performed by Shield, not a second vendor. You get a mitigation timeline after the first visit.
Category 3 (black water) is sewage, groundwater, or otherwise contaminated water. It requires removal and disposal of affected porous materials, thorough cleaning and disinfection, and often containment and testing. Shield follows industry standards for Category 3 mitigation and coordinates with specialists when needed.
We use commercial-grade extraction units, centrifugal air movers, low-grain refrigerant and desiccant dehumidifiers, HEPA air scrubbers, and professional moisture meters and thermal hygrometers. Equipment stays on site until moisture readings confirm the structure is dry.
Yes. Shield works with Ontario home and commercial carriers. We document Category rating, moisture maps, photos, and drying logs, and we can speak with your adjuster or attend the site inspection.
Yes. We provide documentation your carrier needs, including scope of damage, moisture maps, drying logs, and a written estimate. We can communicate directly with your adjuster and attend the on-site inspection when scheduled.
Cost depends on water category, how much of the rec room or suite is wet, and how long commercial drying must run. Small clean-water leaks can be a few hundred dollars; a finished basement or multi-suite riser loss is more. Shield writes a free assessment and a clear estimate before work proceeds.
Yes. Shield offers a free, no-obligation damage assessment. A technician inspects the affected area, takes moisture readings, explains the recommended scope, and provides an estimate so you can make an informed decision.

It can be. Even a slow appliance leak soaks into subfloors and walls and can lead to mold. If water has spread beyond the appliance, shut off its supply, contain the water if possible, and call Shield. We assess whether drying is needed and document the loss for your insurance.
Shield Water Damage Restoration is a trade name of Felicita Group LLC, an Ontario water-loss company. Four GTA offices plus central dispatch at flood.ltd/central share one brand: live pickup, commercial drying to meters, and finishes on the same file.
Emergency work stabilizes the loss: extraction, structural drying, sewage, burst-pipe, basement-flood, and flash-flood cleanup. Rebuild puts rooms back after meters pass: waterproofing, floors, drywall and paint, kitchen and bath. Both live under flood.ltd/services. Live GTA dispatch is flood.ltd/central; West Toronto’s GMB website stays flood.ltd/flood-repair.
